A few minutes from the centre of Arucas, in the north of Gran Canaria, sits the Museo del Plátano La Rekompensa. Here you learn everything about growing bananas, one of the products that best represent the Canary Islands.

The visit is guided and takes you inside a working plantation. It covers how bananas are grown, what fieldwork was like in the past, the tools once used and the role this fruit has played in the island’s economy.
At the end there’s a tasting with jams, sweets and even wines made from Canarian bananas.
Getting there
By car, the museum is about 15 minutes from Las Palmas, easily reached via the GC-2 and GC-20. By bus, Arucas is well connected to the island’s main towns: a good destination for a day trip.
