Fataga

The village, known as the “Valley of the Thousand Palms”, lies in an area ringed by mountains and nature, perfect for a walk, for resting or for heading out on a hike.

• Old quarter: wander among narrow lanes, low houses with wooden balconies and little squares full of flowers.
• Church of San José: small and simple, right in the heart of the village.
• Mirador de Fataga: just before you arrive there’s a lovely viewpoint over the valley.
• Artisan workshops: small shops with ceramics, jewellery and handmade souvenirs.

• Barranco de Fataga: a trail crossing volcanic landscapes and palm groves, great for anyone who loves walking in nature.
• Camino de los Azulejos: a route leading to colourful rocks like those of the famous “Fuente de los Azulejos”.
• Mirador de la Degollada de las Yeguas: one of the island’s most beautiful viewpoints, overlooking canyons and desert-like scenery.

• Restaurante El Albaricoque – a family-run spot serving local dishes such as ropa vieja (a meat and chickpea stew, a Canarian classic) and grilled cheese with palm honey, paired with local wines to enjoy with mountain views.
• Bar La Cueva – ideal for a coffee or a quick snack during your visit.

Try the gofio escaldado too, a warm cream of toasted grains served with mojo.

By car: 25 minutes from Maspalomas, along the scenic GC-60 road.

By bus: there are connections from Playa del Inglés, handy for a day trip.

Tips:

• Go in the late afternoon: the warm light makes everything more evocative.
