Behind the dune, where nobody expects it, there is a lagoon. La Charca de Maspalomas is what remains of an old ravine closed off by the sand: brackish water, a palm grove around it and a bird colony that stays for the winter. It belongs to the same nature reserve as the dunes, and it is the part almost everyone skips.

- Follow the perimeter walkway, ten minutes on foot from the lighthouse

- Binoculars if you have them: the birds keep their distance
Good to know · The best time for the birds is early morning; the best for the light is the last hour of the afternoon. They are not the same moment.
